What does the term
"Bleed" mean ?
A "Bleed"
is when the printing on a piece goes right to the edge of the
paper. Most printing presses can not print right to all four
edges of a page. The piece needs to be printed on oversize paper
and then cut down to the final size, which is where the extra
cost comes in. Also, certain jobs, like business cards, will
be "ganged-up" with many on a page and then cut apart.
Having a card with a bleed means that it can not abut the card
next to it because it needs to have a spacer to get cut off.
This results in having fewer cards on a page, extra cutting time,
and higher costs.
